worst mom in the world

Yup. That's me. On Sunday, I locked BOTH of my kids in the car . . . with my keys. . . in 100 degree heat. It all happened so fast. I was running slightly late to church (as always, unfortunately) so I was rushing as I hurried down the three flights of stairs from our house to our car. I had one girl in each arm and the keys in my hand. I threw the keys on the front seat and then buckled the girls in their already hot carseats. As I swung the door closed. . . like, in middle of the swing. . . I heard "click". I jumped to grab the door, but it was too late. All the doors were locked, the windows were up and my babies were inside. I spent a couple minutes trying to get a frustrated Malia to open her door and when that failed I ran back upstairs and googled "locksmith provo". (I'm just realizing now as I write this how lucky I am that my house was still open and my phone wasn't in the car.) I called the first locksmith listed and told them the situation and the first thing they asked was what town I was in. Knowing that they serviced more than just Provo, I knew they would take forever so I hung up and dailed 911. The cops were there in less than 10 minutes. By that time, Kina was crying, Malia was crying and I was crying. I apologized profusely to the cop knowing that he was probably thinking, "Man, what a bad mom!" but I think he took pity on me cause instead he said "Don't worry. This happens all the time!" RIIIIGHT!! Anyways, the door was open in a minute and I grabbed my babies out. They were sweaty and wet with tears and snot, but totally fine. I carefully opened ALL the windows, unlocked all the doors, turned on the AC and then put them back in and headed to church.

Bad experience, but I'll say one thing. I haven't thrown my keys on the front seat since.

"kiNA"

Since the day Malia started talking (almost a year ago) she's been calling her little sister "KiKA" instead of "Kina". She says it so often that Wayne and I sometimes slip and call her Kika too. Yesterday, when Malia woke up she asked me, "Mommy? Where's KiNA?" I just about fell out of my chair - it sounded so different! So different and SOO cute. I just grabbed her and gave her a big kiss. It was a big day for us!

fhe pool party

We had a great FHE/bbq pool party on Monday. The lesson was about determination and endurance - when you fall, get up and try, try again. The boys decided to demonstrate this concept using the pool as a visual aid. How do you think they did? he he.

(in case you were wondering, Wayne is in blue shorts, Rocky is in white surf shorts, Lane is the one in the black shirt, Collin is in green shorts and the one in red shorts at the end? That's our BISHOP, Hutch. lol.

happy birthday spencer and rachel

On Monday we went to a small kine playdate/birthday party for Spencer and Rachel. The kids ate pizza and cupcakes then played in the water. There's something with playdates and water - both fell asleep before I got home. Ahh! love water parties!:)

Tried to get a picture of all the kids and their party hats . . . too difficult

fui and leonne's wedding day

Saturday was Fui Vakapuna and Leonne Hunkins' wedding! Their sealing was at the Draper temple and their reception was at the Castle Amphitheater in Provo. The weather was kinda cloudy in the morning and rainy in the afternoon, but it all cleared up nicely for the reception and concert afterward. It was a beautiful day!

The new Mr. and Mrs. Vakapuna!

I love it when the groom wears white - it looks so clean. Doesn't Leonne look beautiful?

Tema with her dad and brothers. Love the Hunkins!

There were 15 BRIDESMAIDS (holy moly, huh. lol) and Melba and Kina were two of them. Their colors were brown and tiffany blue.

Honestly, I have never seen this many people at the temple for one couple before. Even when the group was separated by families the photographer had a hard time fitting everyone in one frame. Goes to show there's a lot of people that love this couple.

The bridesmaids and the wanna-be bridesmaids. ha ha. Just kidding Tina.

Melba with her idol, Congressman Eni Faleomavaega (the Father of the Bride)

The reception was at a castle! It had a large lawn where the tables and stage were set up. I loved this banner that was hanging on one of the towers. It's a picture Sili took for their engagements. So pretty, huh.

There were soooo many people there! Leonne is Tahitian/Samoan and Fui is Tongan so it was like a full Polynesian festival. ha ha

The couple eating their cake. They were both very nice to each other and only messed it up a leetle bit.

We got to see all our family there. Even some of my family from St. George had come down. It was nice to mingle with everyone. When Malia saw Inoke (Tali's fiance) she immediately screamed "Tali!" and wanted to go to him (Tali is in Trinidad on a study abroad for a month). It was so cute. What a fun wedding day!

Congratulations Fui and Leonne!

not a happy camper

So I guess I'm just not cut out for camping. We had our ward camp this past weekend up in Provo Canyon and while I love my ward. . . I wasn't really all about the ward camp. I need to clarify. It's not even the whole camp that I didn't enjoy, I actually enjoyed a lot of it! - like the people and the eatings and the games. . . all that was VERY fun. I just didn't enjoy the sleeping in a tent thing. I guess I'm a really light sleeper - but I didn't sleep a WINK! I haven't spent a night like that in a long time. You know, those nights that just seem like forever because you are consciously trying to fall asleep through all of it. Most of my nights lately are exactly the opposite and seem unfortunately too short. So all in all, ward camp was enjoyable EXCEPT for the actual camping part. And Mary with no sleep? Not a happy camper!

ruth's chrisssss

Friday, AIS took us to Ruth's Chris in Park City. The steaks were delicious and were served on a sizzling hot plates. The sides were also very good (especially the sweet potatoes). The lemonade was EXTREMELY sour. ha ha Final verdict? If you have a really special occasion to celebrate AND a hundred bucks to spare. . . I recommend it! If you don't have one or either of those (uh, like us he he). . . than chuck-a-rama would do just fine.

run for freedom!

AIS runners - Dori, me, Tazbaa, Ireen, Sarana, Annie and Bonnie

My day of Independence started with a 5k. The ladies at my work all decided to do it together and I'm so glad we did. We ran the parade route so there were plenty of enthusiastic bystanders to cheer us on - it was a total motivational booster. My goal was to jog the whole time - and I did it! Though my time wasn't amazing (40.26) it was better than my last 5k and challenging for someone as unfit as myself lol. It was a great start to my day and I'm already looking forward to next year! Happy 4th of July!

An action shot of me, Leo, Kina, Nia, Wayne and Ireen

Ooh! and I have to add - I LOVE the Jonas Brothers! They were the lead act at the Stadium of Fire and they were amazing. I've never heard them sing before and didn't recognize any of their music. . .but I thought they were super talented and great performers. Sheesh! I feel like a 13 year old already. lol

choo! chooooo!

Malia has a thing for trains. For our papa date this week we visited Heber, home of the Heber Creeper. Since the actual train ride is 3 hours long (I know, sounds like a blast right?!) we opted to visit the local train restaurant instead. There was a little electric train inside that rode around the entire restaurant and this big play train outside. Malia fell asleep on the long ride there and was slightly grumpy when we woke her up, but STILL, I think she enjoyed it . . deep, deep down inside lol. Thanks Papa!
