For our date last week, Wayne took me to Friday Night Live at BYU. It's a big night where all the clubs at BYU come out to recruit more members by showing what they're all about. There are like 3 dances going on at once, various demonstrations in different areas, a main show and tons of different kinds of food. We kind of giggled the whole time because it is sort of catered towards freshmen and/or single people and we brought Malia with us. She had a bunch of energy and we wanted to tire her out before we put her to bed. In years past, before we had kids we used to go and enjoy the different activities by ourselves. We were both feeling a little awkward until halfway through the night a couple passed us pushing a stroller with a baby in it. We both looked at each other and said, at the exactly same time, "Phew! We're not the only ones" lol. We visited every club and Malia had a blast AND she slept very well that night! Mission accomplished!
The Sword and Quill Club - these are the medieval guys that fence wearing red and black by the Wilk - their activity was a catapult. Very interesting club. Surprisingly, this club had the most supporters than any other we visited. Go figure.
Cricket Club - Malia got back to her roots
Finally Wayne found a worthy opponent at the
Chess ClubHockey at the
Canadian clubVegetarian Club. I know, I asked myself the same thing - who knew?
Fencing Club - cool skill and cool outfits
Karate Club - see how well Malia listened to the sensei?
I was very impressed by the diversity of the clubs at BYU. There were so many I had no idea existed. Way to go to the BYU students who want to get out there and express their talents, skills and interests. Everyone was very eager and willing to show and explain their club and talent and I think that is very cool. It's okay to be different. . . and there are probably other people who are the same and just as different than you. Does that make sense? Anyways, it was a fun night!
