byu football banquet

Last night was the annual BYU Football Banquet. It's a yearly banquet at the Provo Marriott held at the end of the football season to honor the seniors and give out team awards. On the menu was steak and salmon and that was good, but the highlight for me was definitely seeing and chatting with our dear friends that we haven't seen in so long. It was very sad for me to realize we might not see a lot of these people for a long time - everyone is moving on and going their separate ways - but I am consoled to know that our husbands belong to the BYU football fraternity and will enjoy that brotherhood forever.:)

Saia Hafoka, Ray Feinga, Wayne and Moses Foketi

Me, Leonne Hunkin, Kass Feinga and Rashelle Oswald

Vai Sikahema, former BYU football player/former NFL football player/and current NBC sportscaster emceed the night. Players from the 1984 BYU National Championship team presented the awards. It was very cool to see them - the majority had become professional in something other than sports and it was inspiring to see how successful they were.

Wayne was awarded the Vai Sikahema Award for Service and Devotion. The award recipients were voted and decided upon by their teammates. I was touched that his teammates would choose Wayne to receive this kind of award. Thank you to all of you!!

Wayne with Vai Sikahema and the award named after him.

All the seniors were honored and were given several mementos in parting. Each received their jersey framed, their helmet in a beautiful display case and a warrior staff. These staffs were so cool. They were carved by a Tongan bishop and had their name, number, picture and 4 year history of the team with a BYU football player at the top. It will definitely be something we treasure for a long time.

Me and Wayne, Saia and Line Hafoka, Ray and Kass Feinga, Fui and Leonne Vakapuna

I applaud the effort and money that was used to make each senior feel appreciated and special. Each player has dedicated and sacrificed so much to be on the team. The coaches and staff really went all out and it was a beautiful night. We are going to miss BYU football in our lives. We are already missing it! We miss the games, the after games, the practices, the Friday firesides, the Wives Club get-togethers . . . EVERYTHING! (uh, everything except Fall Camp! lol he he) Really, it was nice to be a part of something so special and good.

Some of the friends we will always remember . . .

Ilaughed when you mentioned that Vai Sikahema is a current sportscaster for NBC because that was worded so much better than mine. Hahaha, I think I'll change it. I kinda just plagerized from Wikipedia. Oh well... It really was a fun evening, and I'm proud of Wayne for receiving the Service Award. No one deserves it more than him. That's a great picture of him and his uncle. ;)

Thanks Mary! I love looking at your blog, it's always nice and updated. I don't know where you find time with 2 kids under 2 but it's awesome. Your girls are so cute. I love the video of the reading. And the one of Malia pushing Kina in the doll stroller. I have a video that I need to put up of Lauralei doing the same thing with Adele.

Okay, so I'm reading this at work and looking at the pictures and the doctor comes in to hand me a bunch of charts and he says, "I was there, I know the Latu's, I know Wayne" Then he went on to say something about how great you all are...yada yada yada (ha,ha). At first I was a little embarrassed because I'm on blogger at work...and then I'm like, oh yeah, great people, awesome...and then I clicked off and worked...what a slacker I am. But yeah, you guys are popular....and great, awesome, fun, talented, smart,
good looking, and on, and on,and on....
