kina's ear surgery

Since November, Kina has had ear infections one on top of another. We've tried every medicine in the book, but it didn't seem to help much. This week we were finally referred to an ENT (ears, nose, throat) doctor and he suggested we put tubes in her ears. The tubes help drain the liquid that builds up in her ear and hopefully, will lessen the likelihood of infection. I am VERY excited about this. I think Kina will feel better and hopefully sleep better as well.

Early this morning we checked into the brand new Utah Valley Outpatient Center. My goodness, this place is BEAUTIFUL. It's all state of the art, clean and gorgeous. Our pre-op nurse was none other than Cindy Makai, our favorite stake presidents wife and unofficial aunty to our kids - she said she had seen our name on the list. She was awesome.

Because she would be taking anesthesia the doctor told us Kina couldn't eat 4 hours prior to surgery. Even though she was hungry she was a total trooper - she just chilled while her oxygen, blood pressure, breathing etc. was checked.

Is this itty-bitty hospital gown not hilarious? Oh my goodness, I couldn't stop laughing - the nurses kept giving me funny looks. I guess I just never realized they make them in baby sizes. She looked so cute in it.

I'm so grateful for Tali for accompanying me to the surgery. As you can see, she was a big help and support.

The surgery took about 15 minutes and was successful and problem free. She was pretty uncomfortable coming off the anesthesia, but they said it was pretty normal. She cried and cried. Once she calmed down and had something to eat we headed home. Overall, a great experience. I'm hoping the tubes are a little thing that will make a big difference in her ears and infections. I'll keep you posted!

Hope it works out for you! I've had lots of friends who've had kids that have had that done and they've seemed to be satisfied with the outcome.

So I've heard...they are the miracle of ear infection control! Everyone's telling me to get it for Brooky, but she seems to do good on the YUCKY meds so far! yay for Kina!

I am so glad that it's working out for you guys. We have to schedule the same surgery for our little boy :( and it makes me sad. But, I'm happy to know that it's not as bad as mom's make it out to be :)
